The Name

For more than 400 years

a family of Smith's, first as kindly tenants, and afterwards as Lairds,were settled in the parish of Strathblane at Craigend.The tradition of the family is that when surnames came into use they took their name from their occupation of the smith's and armourers of the Barony of Mugdock. (Strathendrick).

 

edwsmi.gif (6300 bytes). Edward Smith,our uncle who endured years as a prisoner of war , captured at Singapore. He emigrated to New Zealand where his family still reside.
